What Is Seborrhoeic Keratosis Barton-le-Clay?
Seborrhoeic keratosis is a benign growth affecting the outer layer of the skin.
These growths become more common with age and may develop individually or in groups.
Typical characteristics include:
- A light brown, dark brown, black or skin-coloured appearance.
- A slightly raised, rough or waxy surface.
- A distinctive appearance that can look as though the growth is attached to the skin.
- Different sizes and thicknesses.
- Occasional itching or irritation.
Seborrhoeic keratoses are not contagious and are not caused by the virus responsible for common warts.
Although they are benign, other skin conditions can look similar. Appearance alone should not be used to self-diagnose a skin growth.
